Most bank gift cards are fairly better than some store-specific gift cards primarily because of their tie-up with card companies such as Visa, MasterCard and American Express. With this, the gift card can be used at any stores that accept these kinds of cards; thus, your recipient has more options to choose from and is not limited to a specific retail shop. Among these three, the most common perhaps is a Visa gift card, though the latter ones are also offered by many banks.

• Allows cardholder to check balance online or through phone. The CID is required to do this
• This card is universally accepted because of the large merchant base of American Express
• This is available in denomination between $25 and $500
• The funds in the gift card never expires
• The gift card can be replaced when lost or stolen in accordance to the terms and conditions that apply
• The gift card is elegantly packaged when delivered

Citibank

• The gift card can be used virtually anywhere that accepts American Express Cards
• Gift card denominates are $25, $50, $100, $200 and $500
• Fees may apply when loading the balance and replacing a lost or stolen gift card
